Tourist Excursion - Amar Sagar LakeAmar Sagar Lake is counted amongst one of Jaisalmers most picturesque water bodies, despites being somewhat smaller in size as compared with other famous lakes. Another reason for its popularity is the Amar Singh Palace located adjacent to the lake. The palace was built in 17th century by Maharawal Akhai Singh (reigned 1722-61) in honor of his predecessors Amar Singh.

The lake serves as a true Oasis in the desert of Jaisalmer, relaxing the eyes through its enchanting water after one has witnessed miles of sun kissed desert and sand dunes- a welcome shift of colors from gray to blue. A pleasant site to relax, enjoy a short picnic trip and witness an exquisite example of Rajput architecture in Amar Singh Palace.

The palace comprises of pavilions, jharokhas and balconies exhibiting the trademark facets of architecture that are renowned the world over- the extensive carvings, the beautiful frescos, optimal design and royal opulence. However, Amar singh palace’s chief attraction is the murals adorning the walls. These superlative murals decorates the palatial structure and are seen on almost all apartments of this 5 storied palace.

As the visitors wander around the lake, they more often than not notice the several wells, cenotaphs and ponds in the area. Maharawal Amar Singh was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and built a temple dedicated to the deity. The temple now exists within the complex and is highly frequented by both visitors and the villagers alike.
